The sport of gymnastics consists of seven disciplines –  Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, General Gymnastics, Sport Aerobics, Trampoline Sports, and Sports Acrobatics.  Six of the seven disciplines are competitive in nature, whilst General Gymnastics is aimed at the non-competitive aspects of the sport and focuses on a sport for all philosophy.

Although each discipline requires its own blend of activities, the main focus of the sport is to demonstrate physical control of the body during routines – groups of skills performed one after the other – whilst using different pieces of equipment known as apparatus.

Whilst Gymnastics Townsville recognises all 7 Gymsport disciplines, our main focus is on Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, and it’s “Sport for All” discipline, General Gymnastics, which contains skills from both the men’s and women’s disciplines in a safe, fun and non-competitive environment.
